These thirteen tales are the first publication by Josef Lenhart. They deal, process and draw the attention of the readers to unknown spiritual heritage of the upper Nitra region. Folk tales are often thematically moved up to the position of fairy tales and feature both the historical characters and fairy tale creatures. The magic number thirteen gives a new life in the text form to the lost arts, like farming, coal processing, old crafts, but also the tragic fate of the people who lived here. The stories of each character are nicely put together and intertwined, they move toward a happy or a less happy end, but mostly reflect the author's urgent message to humanity. Using the Reading with comprehension guide Analphabeth Illiterate, Folk tales of the upper Nitra region help children and their teachers or parents to deeper penetrate below the surface of the story, exploring history and tradition. The book won the award as The Best Children's Book of the Autumn 2012.
