This story collection consists of 13 stories about different kinds of pets - cows, cats, pigs, dogs, flies etc. What binds this collection together is the fact that all of these pets were left by their owners due to many tragic events in 20th century Latvian history.
We are used to look at history from our own - human - point of view, but humans have always been accompanied by pets - the silent witnesses of history, yet we never talk about their experience. This book tries to change that, because all the stories here are written from animal perspective. In many cases their distant and often confused look at historic events manages to capture the human and animal tragedy of the 20th century in a more emotional way than human perspective ever could. To each story author has added a key - a short explanation about the historic events that the story is based on. Writer Pauls Bankovskis is also the author of watercolor illustrations.
