A little girl called Assol had heard about the story of the scarlet sails and the prince from a wandering collector of folk tales and stories. Because she believed in the story with all her heart, she and her father, former sailor, were thought to be crazy. But far away from the sea, away from the village with its dirty and predatory sails, there was a castle. In this castle the future Captain Gray was growing up. Later, he rigged his ship with scarlet sails in recognition of the beautiful Assol. The artist has used the wide bold strikes of oil painting and cinematographic close-ups that evoke the salt winds, sunny colors and the charm of romanticism.
