Ieva Babilaitė (b. 1973) is a prolific artist working across numerous fields. This picture book puzzle by Babilaitė includes ever-changing illustrations that help to create a story about a bird that is born without wings. The main protagonist‘s desire to fly and not resign itself to its current situation is emphasized through various geometric forms and colours. There are just a few word or sentences in the book, but the subtle language of art and overlapping layers of illustrations give the story additional artistic value that encourages the reader’s creativity. Although the book is intended for very young readers, the artist wished it would be interesting also for elders as well as for adults. This Book was awarded main prize in Lithuania’s Most Beautiful Book Competition. This book was selected for the IBBY Honour List‘2016.
