This is the second book for teens by the young author Unė Kaunaitė (b. 1991). The main characters are eighth-graders. They are similar, yet different: very vulnerable, and in need of acknowledgement. Gabija and Šarūnas come from different families. Šarūnas lives with his grandmother, because his parents are working in the UK. The freedom of the unknown is enticing, and Šarūnas gradually gets involved in crime. Although Gabija lives with her parents, she feels lonely, and tries very hard not to be noticed in her class. As she spends increasing amounts of time with the popular Šarūnas, she starts doubting her own behavior, and his. Often she is forced to choose between how she would like to behave and the choices made by others. Both Gabija and Šarūnas, for different reasons, begin writing letters to the imaginary Elzė. And then their lives take an unexpected turn.
