In this comic, Anke Kuhl presents 18 episodes of her remembered childhood in the 1970s. From a childlike-naive perspective, reports are made of large and small, funny, serious and sometimes even sad events in a perfectly normal child՚s life. It՚s about the cohesion of the siblings, but also about disputes, about pets, glasses and tights or the refuge with grandma and grandpa when the parents argue. Pictorial and verbal narration are skillfully staged within the possibilities of comics. The panel arrangement is tense broken open by the transitions. Snapshots, perspectives and zooms, enriched with speed lines and sound words, ensure a lot of dynamism. The first-person narrator comments on cross-generational family life in the partly open, partly closed text boxes. The panels show that it doesn՚t have to be an ideal world to generate cohesion. This title is nominated for the 2021 German Children՚s Literature Award.
