This book is a compilation of 5 classic tales of Basque children's literature. These stories have been published since 1985 and have been recovered in this book.
The rat-dog Xola, according to its author, has "the obstinacy of a mule, the cunning of a fox and the mischief of a rebellious child"; above all he is a very human animal, innocent and cheeky at the same time, always questioning the obligations imposed on us by certain social conventions. He loves freedom, but with a touch of humour close to the absurd.
The illustrations, close to comics, accompany and enliven the text.
In an English translation, The Adventures of Shola was published as a single book in 2012 and in 2022, the prestigious Japanese publisher Shogakukan has chosen its own edition to include it in a collection of the best children's works of world literature.
